Forklift Tires
Forklifts are some of the most popular vehicles that companies use. The ability to lift various loads and move them over short distances represented by these little trucks is outstanding. Although the first forklifts were put into use early 20th century, this type of vehicle received widespread recognition after the Second World War. Today, forklifts have become an example of indispensable equipment in operations such as warehousing and manufacturing.
One reason why forklifts are so popular is because they are generally smaller in size and allow great maneuverability in small and confined spaces. While larger models of these vehicles do exist, it is the utility of the smaller vehicles that is highly appreciated in distribution centers and warehouses around the world. Such structures are often designed with regard to ensuring the safe and quick movement of forklifts around them, which includes special floor that is easy on the forklift tires.
Generally, forklifts feature rear-wheel steering system. One of the many advantages of this is improving maneuverability. That way an operator can easily navigate the vehicle through tight corners. Forklifts usually come with one of two types of hydraulic control systems. One features direct manipulation of the valves through the use of levers. Another more sophisticated system relies on the use of electrically activated actuators controlled by small finger-size levers, which allow the operator more freedom.

- Fork positioner – an attachment that makes it possible to move the forks apart or together, eliminating the need for manual adjustment.
- Barrel clamp – an attachment that is used to squeeze the load and prevent slipping. These are commonly used for paper rolls, kegs and barrels.
- Slip sheet – an attachment used to clamp slip sheets and draw them onto the forks for further transportation.
- Scales – this attachment allows operators to easily measure the weight of their cargo, without the need to travel to a platform scale.
Like every vehicle, forklifts require regular maintenance. Perhaps one of the most important aspects of this is monitoring the condition of forklift tires. Since most forklifts lack suspension, it is the tires of the vehicle that take all of the stress from the load. If the tires are in bad condition, so is the work done with the vehicle. A clean work yard or warehouse floor surely contributes to longer life tire life, but that is not always possible. Often times there is debris, dust or small items that tires run over. Apart from the condition of the ground, operators should be mindful of flat spots and any tear on the tires, as that is an indication of required replacement.
